PMI Uganda Malaria Reduction Activity
Request for Consultants: Audio-visual documentation of project successes through high-impact images and videos. Period of Performance: February – April 2024
Place of Performance: Kampala, Acholi, Busoga, Karamoja, Lango, West Nile

BACKGROUND:
The JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI) led PMI Uganda Malaria Reduction Activity (PMI MRA) is a five-year initiative funded by USAID to combat the high incidence of malaria in Uganda’s five malaria high-burden regions: Acholi, Busoga, Karamoja, Lango, and West Nile. The project aims to contribute to the Ministry of Health’s goal of reducing malaria mortality by 50% and morbidity by 75% through a collaborative, multisectoral strategy that empowers local communities and strengthens health systems. This involves enhancing prevention, improving case management and diagnostics, addressing malaria in pregnancy and children under 5, and fostering leadership and governance at all healthcare levels. The project emphasizes district-led actions and community engagement to ensure long-term sustainability and local ownership of malaria initiatives.
JSI is seeking the services of a professional photographer and videographer to document how PMI Uganda Malaria Reduction Activity MRA actions are strengthening health systems in Uganda and ultimately improving malaria, and health outcomes.

OBJECTIVE:
The goal of the consultancy is to capture impactful and high-quality photographs and videos that resonate with the mission of PMI MRA and showcase PMI Uganda Malaria Reduction Activity’s contributions in enhancing the health systems and fighting malaria in Uganda.
The images and videos will be used to communicate about the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) support through various communication formats, such as online photo essays, online video posts, social media posts, publications, and other communications products.
The consultant will work with the PMI MRA Communications Manager and program team to capture stories of program impact using standard protocols required to ensure the safety and consent of children and youth, pregnant women, and caregivers.
The consultant will be involved in the pre-planning, shooting, editing, and curating of the products and uploading a complete set of professional quality photos for use by the PMI MRA.
