Who is SHONA?
We identify, guide, back, and connect entrepreneurs, helping them build Good Businesses.

We identify high-potential ambitious entrepreneurs and equip them with the knowledge, tools, capital, and networks they need to grow well-run businesses that are good for customers, employees, owners, value chain partners, the environment, and local communities.
Good Businesses create good jobs, provide high-quality products and services, generate wealth, build industries, protect and regenerate the environment, and invest in local communities.
Our goal is to positively impact 35 million people through 1,000 Good Businesses by 2030.
Background
In partnership with Welthungerhilfe (WHH) and with funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Germany (BMZ), we are implementing the Herizon Project to build economic opportunities for women and increase access to life-enhancing products and services in Uganda and Kenya.

The project focuses on identifying and supporting women-driven enterprises in key sectors, including:

Agriculture
WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene)
Climate-smart food production
Nutrition
Climate change
Digitalisation
Skills development
To support the growth of women-driven businesses, a supportive ecosystem of stakeholders—government bodies, universities, business development providers, capital providers, and networks—is crucial.

Scope of Work
The consultant will identify and map key actors and opportunities in Uganda and Kenya to support women-driven businesses, particularly in the sectors identified above.

Tasks:

Desk Review and Secondary Data Analysis:

Review existing reports, databases, and documents related to women-driven businesses in Uganda and Kenya.
Identify existing networks, programs, funding sources, and institutions supporting women-led businesses.
Stakeholder Mapping and Interviews:

Identify stakeholders across the non-profit, for-profit, government, and academic sectors.
Conduct interviews to gather insights into their roles, services, and challenges in supporting women entrepreneurs.
Development of Stakeholder and Opportunities Map:

Develop a detailed map of stakeholders categorized by type, function, geographic location, and services offered.
Report Writing:

Compile findings into a comprehensive report.
Include recommendations for strengthening the ecosystem and fostering collaboration among stakeholders.
Deliverables
The consultant will provide a Stakeholder Mapping Report that includes:

Comprehensive Stakeholder Profiles:

Name of the organization
Sector (governmental, non-governmental, academic, private sector)
Function (e.g., financing, incubation, training)
Geographic area of operation
Specific services offered to women-driven businesses
Impact assessment (data on their support for women-driven businesses, where available)
Categorization of Stakeholders:

By sector, function, geographic location, and target industries.
Analysis of Stakeholder Roles and Services:

Evaluation of stakeholder contributions and identification of service gaps or overlaps.
Recommendations for Collaboration:

Suggestions for enhancing the ecosystem to better support women-driven businesses.
Key Opportunities for Women-Driven Businesses:

List of opportunities in agriculture, WASH, climate-smart food production, etc.
List of Leading Women-Driven Businesses:

Profiles of successful women-led businesses for potential partnerships or mentorship opportunities.

Qualifications
Academic Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Social Entrepreneurship, Gender Studies, International Development, Business Administration (MBA), Economics, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or Agricultural Economics.
Additional certifications in business management, project management, or gender studies are an advantage.
Professional Experience:

Proven expertise in stakeholder mapping, analysis, and report writing, with a focus on women’s entrepreneurship.
Strong knowledge of the ecosystem supporting women-led businesses in Uganda and Kenya, including relevant sectors.
Experience in engaging with non-profit and for-profit sectors, government institutions, and academia.
Proficiency in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
