Managing Director – Monitor Publications Limited (MPL) at Nation Media Group
Monitor Publications Limited (MPL), Uganda’s leading independent media company is seeking to recruit a Managing Director. MPL was founded in 1992 and is as a subsidiary of Nation Media Group PLC (NMG). We are looking for an astute leader to take the business to new heights as it embarks on its transformation journey.
Job Purpose
The role is responsible for leading MPL, The East African and Africa Broadcasting (U) Limited (the broadcasting company that operates NTV Uganda and Spark TV) to deliver their long-term strategy, business plans and annual performance targets, in order to maximize value to shareholders.
The role reports to the Group CEO, Nation Media Group PLC.
Key responsibilities:
• Foster company-wide understanding, alignment and execution of strategic objectives, with clear milestones and measures of success.
• Develop and promote an organizational culture that facilitates cross-functional collaboration, customer- centricity and performance excellence.
• Create and champion an environment that supports and rewards creativity and innovation for long-term sustain- ability of the business.
• Ensure optimal allocation and prioritization of resources (human, financial and physical), across MPL and Africa Broadcasting (U) Limited to facilitate delivery of business plans and annual targets.
• Develop and execute a talent management strategy that ensures robust succession planning within the executive team for sustainable implementation of strategic objectives.
• Lead the implementation of strategies aimed at building and growing multimedia platforms to propel the company to market leadership in content creation and distribution for consistent business growth and revenue diversification.
• Build and sustain strategic partnerships and cross- industry alliances that align with the brand image of the company and long-term goals.
• Identify and effect mitigating controls against potential risks to the business.
• Promote effective communication across the organization.
• Develop and maintain positive relations with the Board of Directors.
• Provide support to the board Chairman and be the link between management and the board of directors.
• Enforce Corporate Governance and ethical business conduct across the organization.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Compe- tencies:
• A Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s qualification. Minimum 15 years work experience, 5 of which should have been at executive leadership role with responsibility for business performance.
• Proven ability to connect with, inspire and drive teams. Evidence of previous involvement in strategy development, translation and execution.
• Demonstrable experience in managing relations with various external stakeholders across the private and public sector.
• Past experience in the Media Industry is an added advan- tage.
Personal Attributes:
• Competency in strategy formulation and execution. Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
• High standard of integrity, with clean track record. Ability to influence.
• Ability to plan, prioritize, and deliver under pressure.
• Good understanding of the evolving regulatory environ- ment in the Media Industry.
• Demonstrable ability in building a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
• Commercial acumen and familiarity with contemporary digital media organizations.
