How can you make a difference?
The intern will work under the primary supervision of the Communications Specialist and interact daily with the Senior Communications Associate, the wider Communications team, and technical colleagues from other sectors, the Communication Intern will:
• Assisting in preparing social media content calendars, analytics, and other digital communications reports.
• Assisting in preparing social media plans.
• Create social media content such as posters, banners, photos and short videos.
• Assisting in the day-to-day maintenance and monitoring of the digital channels.
• Tracking requests for information and feedback on various communication products
• Supporting in monitoring the impact of various communication channels.
• Contributing to the updating of the existing country office social media engagement strategy.
• Seek feedback from youth on UNICEF social media content.
• Overall support to knowledge management of social media and communication products, plans and documents.
Through the production of compelling content, the Communication Intern will contribute to the engagement of individuals by reaching them through the channels they prefer.
Summary of key functions/accountabilities:
• Design graphics and e posters, e photo quotes and infographics for social media to accompany social media packs in line with agreed themes
• Working with the Senior Communication Associate, plan social media content packs containing recommendations such as hashtags, relevant accounts to tag, timing/scheduling of posts during recommended times for increased engagement, etc for approval by the Communications specialist.
• Research information pertaining to UNICEF’s programmatic interventions that can be put out through various digital channels, including websites, social media platforms, online publications, and any other channels as deemed relevant.
• Utilize market available tools, in line with the ICT policy to create compelling creatives and digital multimedia content in different formats to accompany posts for various platforms.
• Produce video products for social media platforms from available b-roll and repository content for review and approval for use by Communications specialist.
• Maintain an online social media calendar of content themes, international days and all upcoming coverage schedules according to the calendar.
• Critically follow trends and mentions of UNICEF Uganda platforms and monitor for potential crises arising
• Support the management of UNICEF Uganda digital platforms.
• Contribute ideas on growth and engagement of audiences in unit meetings
• Review reports and assess potential opportunities of growth of social media Prescence based on UNICEF Uganda potential audiences’ interests and habits and propose multiple options for engagement with UNICEF.
• Support the implementation of UCO digital communication strategy.
• Adapt relevant multimedia assets from the Division of Global Communication and Advocacy (DGCA) for local audiences.
To qualify as a Communication Intern for every child you will have:
• Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years, preferably in a related field (e.g., Mass Communication, Digital Communication, English, Advertising, Marketing or Public Relations).
• Firm grasp of social media tools and platforms including X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
• Experience in digital marketing is a plus.
• Understanding of the basic principles of public relations and/or marketing.
• Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel) and understanding of automated systems and analytics
• Proficiency in Adobe suite.
• Knowledge of dHTML, content management systems and graphic design a plus
• Possess excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self-starter, good time management, creative, with ability to communicate in a professional manner.
• Ability to work well independently, and within a multi-cultural team.
• Basic skills in video editing, event management, and coordination would be a plus
• Commitment to the continuous improvement of service quality and the organization’s mission.
• Resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm and detail-oriented
• Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
• Be proficient in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages: English, French or Spanish. Fluency in the working language of the office you are applying to is required.
• Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
• Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and have no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to.
