Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Assistant Manager Broking, the Business Development Officer , Sales Broking will play a pivotal role in supporting the development and growth of business relationships with brokers to drive business growth. This position requires a dynamic individual with a background in insurance and a experience in sales and broker channel management. The successful candidate will support the channel strategy to expand the broker network, ensuring effective communication, and achieving sales targets through collaborative efforts with brokers.
Key responsibilities:
1. Identify and engage existing and potential clients and recommend new Brokers to the company.
2. Ensure that accurate and competitive quotations are prepared and delivered promptly to Brokers on receipt of proposal/Risk notes.
3. Liaising with Brokers to ensure that they are serviced as per Britam’s Service standards.
4. Promptly respond to all customer enquiries.
5. Ensure that policy renewal notices are sent to the brokers at least 90, 45 and 30days prior to renewal date for all lines of business.
6. Ensure that all documentation including; invoices, policies, summaries, settlement cheques and all other correspondence, has been submitted to the brokers within reasonable time.
7. Carefully examine the policy documents to ensure they capture the brokers /underwriters’ needs and instructions before dispatching the original document to the broker.
8. Keep in touch with the brokers by sending statements on the monthly basis and related communication regularly.
9. Ensure premium remittance & reconciliation for brokers’ generated businesses
10. Ensure that commission which is due is paid to the broker on the agreed dates.
11. Service existing business; as part of enhancing customer service, regular visits to our brokers must be done at least twice a week including making calls.
12. Ensure excellent customer service to enable the Company retain existing customers and attract prospective clients;
13. Assist in the development of Products and tailor-made solutions in line with broker requirements.
14. Gather marketing intelligence statistics including competition, new products and Company’s image to facilitate development of strategies to give the company a competitive advantage;
15. Prepare weekly and monthly reports on production
16. Assist in coordinating the claim notification, communicating to the broker, the requisite documents in support of a claim, updating the broker during all stages of the claim settlement
17. Undertake initial underwriting of business to ensure sound acceptance of risk thereafter forward to the Claims & Underwriting Manager.
18. Handle broker complaints written or verbal and refer to your supervisor where necessary.
19. Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time

Knowledge, experience and qualifications required:
Knowledge:
1. Insurance Products and Services: In-depth understanding of various insurance products
2. Sales and Marketing Strategies: Strong knowledge of sales techniques, marketing strategies, and customer engagement practices.
3. Market Analysis: Ability to analyze market trends, competition, and customer needs to identify business opportunities.
4. Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with insurance industry regulations and compliance requirements in Uganda.
5. Financial Acumen: Understanding of financial principles, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
Experience:
1. Sales Experience: Proven track record in sales, preferably in the insurance or financial services industry.
2. Business Development: Experience in identifying, developing, and managing new business opportunities and partnerships.
3. Customer Relationship Management: Experience in building and maintaining strong client relationships.
4. Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and quality outcomes.
5. Team Collaboration: Experience working collaboratively within a team and across departments to achieve business goals.
Qualifications:
1. Educational Background: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Second Class Upper or First Class) in business administration, marketing, finance, insurance, or a related field. Relevant professional certifications (e.g., ACII, CII) can be an added advantage.
2. Professional Certifications: Certifications in sales, marketing, or insurance (e.g., Chartered Insurance Institute certifications) are desirable.
3. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and data analysis tools.
4. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present and negotiate effectively.
5. Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address client needs and resolve issues effectively.
