About Refactory
Refactory Limited is an academy that seeks to address the challenge of youth unemployment by closing the skills gap for talent in software & tech-related fields in Africa. Refactory Limited was established by four partners; Clarke International University (CIU), Laboremus Uganda Ltd and Fontes Foundation and Youth With A Mission UK.
Specific Terms of Reference
As an Apprenticeship Lead, you will provide the following deliverables;
Program Administration
• Apprentice Recruitment: Manage the recruitment of apprentices for their training program in close collaboration with the Program leadership.
• Continuous Review & adaptation: Periodically review the apprenticeship program and other technical aspects of Refactory courses and advise on necessary refinements.
• Cross Functional collaboration: Work closely with the Coaching Lead and the Operations Manager to ensure successful rollout of the Apprenticeship program from the learning phase to the project execution phase.
Apprenticeship Project Management
• Projects Qualification: Analyse partner provided projects to ensure that they fit the six months scope and continuous learning aspect.
• Project Planning: Alongside the apprentices, develop and maintain project plans from the provided project definitions, schedules and resource allocation to ensure project success.
• Project Technical Support: Managing the full lifecycle of software development projects from initiation to closure, ensuring successful delivery within budget, scope of six months, and schedule constraints.
• Risk Management: Managing project risks and issues, identifying and mitigating potential project roadblocks and providing solutions to ensure successful project outcomes.
• Project Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitoring project progress and providing regular project status reports to stakeholders, including project health, risks, and issues.
• Ensuring that project deliverables meet quality standards and user expectations, conducting quality assurance activities as needed.
• Providing technical leadership and guidance to the project team, ensuring that development methodologies and best practices are followed.
• 8. Managing project scope changes and ensuring that they are documented, reviewed, and approved by stakeholders.
• Coaching & Mentorship: Oversee the coaching and mentorship of Apprentices to ensure timely & expected delivery of industry partner projects.
Partnerships & Communications
• Partner Sourcing: Find and Qualify right fit partners for the Refactory Apprenticeship Program, working closely with the leadership and marketing and communications team.
• Partnership Management: Liaise with Apprenticeship industry partners to ensure alignment with Refactory requirements for project execution within the specified timelines.
• Reporting: Detail the Apprenticeship program activities in a precise report on a quarterly basis.
• Build and maintain Refactory’s reputation and visibility with press and the public when required to represent the academy in official capacity.
Requirements
The right fit person must have the following qualities:
• Strong technical background and understanding of agile software development processes and methodologies.
• Excellent relationship building skills to bring on board and maintain lasting partner relations with Refactory.
• Be a self starter that is organised and analytical enough to collect & use data to make informed decisions.
• Experience in programming using various languages and frameworks.
• Knowledge and experience in project management as applied in the technology industry.
• Proven leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve project objectives.
• Excellent writing, communication, verbal, interpersonal, presentation and public speaking skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams
• Be a creative critical thinker that solves problems with simple and up to scratch solutions.
• Have the ability to influence the team without consensus.
• Flexible enough to learn fast and adapt to an fast paced agile environment.
Desired attributes
• 3+ years experience working in technology or related industry roles.
• Familiar with the Education and Technology Ecosystems.
• Working knowledge of building web and mobile applications.
• An Education background in Software Engineering and related disciplines,
• Project management, People management, or comparable work experience of the same.
• Ability to mentor and coach teams during the project lifecycle.
