Mission/ Core purpose of the Job
The Specialist Logistics is responsible for managing and operational maintenance of the logistics partnerships of Group Finco e-commerce products. The incumbent will have end-to-end visibility in e-commerce product logistics & shipments across the platform to ensure efficient e-commerce product delivery through strategic logistical partnerships.
The incumbent in this role will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the logistics processes, as well as manage the day-to-day logistics activities
RESPONSIBILITIES
Main Job Functions:
Strategy Development and Implementation
• Execute the E-Commerce Logistics strategy in line with the overarching business goals, plans and direction, frameworks and roadmaps
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting to enable the regular review of the functional strategy, roadmap and performance to ensure its alignment with the changing dynamics of the internal and external ecosystem
Operational Delivery
• Support in managing the product roadmap and delivery of new products related to e-commerce & logistics
• Provide inputs and support for managing the business and the relationship development with logistics partner prospects. Work towards aligning objectives, priorities, and resources between Finco and them
• Provide support across aspects of partnership management from research to business case development and deal structuring. Provide necessary inputs to support the negotiation process
• Work with the logistics partners to understand their strategic priorities, challenges, complexities and internal roadmaps
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, procurement, and customer service, to ensure that logistics processes are aligned with business objectives and customer requirements
• Manage and oversee the daily logistics operations, including transportation, warehousing, inventory management, and distribution
• Evaluate and optimize transportation routes, modes of transportation, and carrier performance to minimize transportation costs and improve delivery times
• Support Opcos in developing go to market product strategies and drive revenues and usages with regards to e-commerce products
• Implement and maintain logistics processes and systems, including warehouse management systems, transportation management systems, and inventory management systems
• Support prioritization and trade-offs among customer experience, schedule, performance, and resourcing
• Monitor product logistics & shipment management by partners/3rd parties with regard to E-commerce products
• Monitor and report on logistics and supply chain performance metrics, including on-time delivery, order fulfilment, inventory accuracy, and transportation costs
• Operate with influence across a wide variety of technical, partner and commercial teams.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, such as customs regulations and safety regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures
Governance
Operational, Tactical and Strategic Meetings
• Provide input in strategic meetings when required
• Provide inputs into the risk mitigation and controls
• Provide input into the preparation of proposal on change initiatives, policies and procedures
Escalations
• Escalate issues that will result in severe time, scope, productivity, and cost or resource impact
• Provide solutions to escalations that have multiple processes / functions impact on critical path of service delivery
Tactical
• Provide input into all projects initiated
• Provide input into establishing objectives, targets and budgets for the function as applicable
• Identify and document key risks, issues and dependencies and set mitigation actions
• Prepare documentation required for sign-off / making decisions regarding tactical changes
Performance
• Ensure execution in alignment with divisional strategy
• Continuous performance monitoring and adjust strategy and actions to deliver targets
Reporting
• Report on a periodic basis relating to progress made within the function and in accordance with the measurement metrics set by the organisation
• Report on an ad hoc basis on specific projects, as required
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• Minimum of 3-year graduate degree in Business Management, Logistics or related field
• MBA or Masters (advantageous)
Experience:
• 5 or more years of relevant work experience with a non-traditional FinTech or E-commerce company
• At least 2-3 years’ experience in E-commerce Logistics Management
• Experience in E-Commerce Category Management role will be preferred
• Experience in managing, leading, and implementing logistic operations
• Understanding emerging markets advantageous
• Worked across diverse cultures and geographies
• Pan Africa multi-cultural experience is advantageous
• Entrepreneurial spirit, self-driven and ability to motivate a fast-paced team
• Attitude of Innovation, inventiveness and thought leadership
• Willing and flexible to travel within Africa and Middle East
• English speaker. French, Portuguese, Zulu, Swahili, and other African languages a plus
