Job Purpose:
To co-ordinate project activities for the Disability Research Group studies, specifically the Navigendi study on experiences of violence of children with disabilities, the CIC study which aims to improved kidney function and catheterization practice of children with disabilities and the Missing Billion Process Evaluation, looking at the impact of a participatory approach in improving access to health care for persons with disabilities.

Roles & Responsibilities
1. Principal duties.
• Oversee and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the projects and ensure collection of quality data.
• Coordinate and provide support to activities of the research teams
• Supervise the study staff
• Facilitate staff training, coordination and support
• Liaise with partners to ensure research is conducted according to protocol and regulatory requirements
• Organize and support Study Advisory Group meetings
• Ensure timely procurement of study materials
• Contribute to the preparation of interview guides and other tools
• Lead the correspondence with Ugandan IRB and other regulatory bodies
• Oversee the project’s consent/assent process in Uganda
• Contribute to the data collection, coding and analysis of the interview data using NVIVO
• Prepare project progress reports as may be required.
• Contribute to training within the DRG and unit
• Contribute to internal citizenship, e.g. organizing staff meetings and trainings
• Contribute to the organization of the dissemination activities
• Contribute to publications and presentations of findings
• Assist the PIs in preparing for funders and PIs visits and the end of project conference
• Other duties as may be assigned by the relevant authority as deemed necessary.
2. Financial management.
• Manage the project budget in Uganda with support from the PIs
• Ensure that the project is implemented within budget and timelines
• Contribute to financial reporting
3. Line Management Responsibilities
• Up to 5 social science team leads or research assistants (supervision role)
4. LSHTM Integration
• The post-holder will be in regular contact by videoconference, phone and email with London based PIs.
• staff will be encouraged to participate in LSHTM Uganda unit and online LSHTM activities
5. Environment
• Participate in carbon emission reduction activities across the Unit and wider LSHTM
• Act as an advocate for the responsible and efficient use of resources
• The post holder will ensure and encourage a disability inclusive work environment as well as promote equity, diversity and inclusivity within the research group

Person Specification
• Master’s Degree in Disability Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Educational Sciences, other Social Science or Public Health
• PhD in a relevant discipline
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in conducting and analyzing qualitative data.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in coordinating qualitative research studies;
• Experience working in a similar research environment
• Experience working with children, youth and adults with disabilities and their families
• Contribution to research leadership for at least 2 studies at least one at a level equivalent to Project Leader.
• Experience in managing teams
• At least two first author publications over research career.
• First authored conference abstracts and presentations
• Excellent computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Ppt)
• Knowledge of qualitative research methods
• Knowledge of participatory disability research
• Knowledge in data analysis, publication and grant writing
• Organized with excellent attention to detail
• Excellent management, networking, and communication skills (written and verbal)
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Proven skills managing complex projects
• Proven skills coordinating qualitative research studies
• Proven interest in disability research
