What is your role?
You will be responsible for ensuring that all finished goods (fish feed) meet the De Heus and Ugandan standards of quality and safety. This role requires a thorough understanding of quality control processes, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead a team towards achieving quality objectives. You are also responsible for HSSE standards. Within this role you are closely working together with the production and purchasing team., at the same time you need to be assertive and firm in following protocols and standards.
As this company is just starting up, the role will shift from laying the groundwork and recruit team members to the day-to-day management of the quality team.
This role reports to the Managing Director of Uganda and works closely with the Quality team based in the Netherlands.
Your key responsibilities are to:
• Develop and implement quality assurance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Conduct regular quality audits and inspections of raw materials, production processes, and finished products.
• Monitor and analyze quality performance data to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
• Lead and manage the quality control team, providing training and guidance to ensure high performance and adherence to quality standards.
• Collaborate with production and purchasing teams to ensure quality requirements are met both in production and in raw materials.
• Investigate and resolve quality issues, including customer complaints and non-conformities, and develop strategies to prevent recurrence.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive quality records and documentation, including quality reports, certifications, and compliance documentation.
• Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.
• Set and maintain HSSE (Health, Safety, Security & Environment) standards in the company
• Proactively participate and communicate with quality team at the head office in Netherlands.
What do we expect from you?
You need to be structured, highly motivated and assertive when needed. Quality is key of our company and this job demands a sense of responsibility for quality and safety.
Our ideal candidate:
• Has a degree food science Animal nutrition, quality management or a related field, with at least five (5) years’ experience in a similar role, of which three should have been in a senior office or management role
• In-depth knowledge of quality control processes, HACCP, GMP, and other relevant standards and regulations.
• Experience with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, FSSC 22000) and certification processes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team.
• Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Has a working knowledge of current legislation on animal feed standards
• Has experience with HSSE
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Power BI
