Asili Agriculture is a fully-mechanized largescale farming company with an integrated food security platform for East Africa that manages dual-season production of high quality maize and soybeans for supply to regional food processors. Asili became operational in January 2014 and is currently farming on over 7,000 ha of land in Western Uganda under a conservation agriculture and precision farming approach to maximize yields efficiently and sustainably.

Our Farm Hubs operate the largest staple foods farming enterprise in Uganda. We also operate grain storage and trading activities serving over 15,000 farmers and supplying over 40,000 MT of food annually. Our Producer Services Business Unit (PSBU) provides bundled services—agronomy, quality inputs supply, grain marketing and financial services—to smallscale producers (also known as smallholders) as well as customized farming services to large landowners. Our Digital Division develops AMSAF – a resilient food marketplace connecting all stakeholders – and implements digital solutions employed across our Hubs and PSBU. Today, we employ 230+ individuals and employ over 800 temporary employees. The Purpose of the role
The Level 2 Mechanic is primarily responsible for diagnosing and repairing vehicle problems accurately and efficiently. This position requires expertise in electrical, hydraulic, engine, braking, transmission, and air conditioning systems. Reporting to the Level 4 Technician with dotted lines to technical supervisors and the workshop manager, the role plays a crucial part in ensuring the operational readiness of our fleet and machinery
Specific Roles and Responsibilities of the Position
1. Preventive Maintenance:
• Conduct daily machine inspections, diagnose issues, and recommend preventive maintenance to maintain machine fitness.
• Perform 50-hour and 250-hour services for tractors, self-propelled sprayers, and combines, ensuring service records are accurately documented.
2. Corrective Maintenance:
• Conduct root cause analysis for mechanical failures.
• Prepare parts lists and coordinate with stores regarding stock availability.
• Ensure timely and effective resolution of breakdowns, exploring local solutions like fabrication and welding when OEM spares are unavailable.
3. Other Mechanical Tasks:
• Perform oil changes, brake repairs, brake pad replacements, and air cleaner cleaning.
• Repair small engines (e.g., compressors, water pumps) and mentor junior mechanics.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hydraulic failures and perform basic welding as needed.
4. Vehicle Wiring:
• Conduct basic wiring tasks such as light installations and battery maintenance. • Ensure proper insulation and conduct flow and voltage measurements.
5. General Responsibilities:
• Undertake any other mechanical duties as required.
Personal Specification for this Role
Essential
• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a reputable institute.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in vehicle electrical work.
• Ability to service, diagnose, and repair a range of agricultural machinery.
• Strong knowledge of workshop procedures and health and safety practices.
• Proficient in MS Office and OEM diagnostic tools.
• Excellent communication and time management skills.
Desirable
• Leadership skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Competencies for this Role
• Strong understanding of electrical, hydraulic, engine, braking, transmission, and air conditioning systems.
• Ability to diagnose and repair a range of agricultural machinery, including tillage, planting, harvesting, spraying, and irrigation equipment.

Working Conditions
The role involves outdoor work in various weather conditions (rain, sunshine, cold, and hot weather) and requires handling heavy equipment and occasional exposure to chemicals. Adherence to health and safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), is mandatory.
