About the client: PSS has been mandated to hire a Group Business Development and Strategy Manager for one of the leading distribution pharma organizations. It is one of the leading importers and distributors of pharmaceutical formulations and surgical and non-surgical items.

Job Purpose:
The main purpose of this position is to lead the development and implementation of Business Development strategies across the Organisation Group. The holder is also responsible for marketing, direct sales, sales and channel management, contract negotiation, and key account management in a bid to grow company sales and profits

Key Responsibilities:
JOB ROLES AND EXPECTATIONS:
Strategic Business Growth:
1. Develop and lead the implementation of the Organisation Group Business development strategies and initiatives to ensure commercial growth across the group.
2. Support the implementation of the Commercial vision and strategy with the aim of successfully achieving business revenue and EBIDTA targets.
3. Advise the GCCO on improvements and current trends in business development approaches.
4. Plan and oversee new business development initiatives.

Research and Market Development
1. Research and analyze market trends (current and future) including awareness about prospective partners, competitors, and clients to guide strategic direction, business decisions, and responses to changing business environment.
2. Research the latest trends in the pharma business and create new opportunities to expand business
3. Partner with internal and external stakeholders on the evaluation, due diligence, and technical assessments of the potential business partners.
4. Assess risks involved with new initiatives, ensure deadlines are met, and be ready to handle unexpected situations.

Network Development
1. Expand the Organisation’s Pharma footprint across Africa through business partnerships with major pharma manufacturing companies through principal and supplier models.
2. Identify opportunities to expand the business through partnerships, mergers, and new market ventures.
3. Provide market intelligence to support strategic business decisions in terms of future development of existing and new product solutions.
4. Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as Supply Chain, Marketing, Legal, and compliance to help align company offerings with clients’ needs.

Relationship Building
1. Identify and cultivate impactful relationships both internally and across the Pharma industry to help the company capitalize on external opportunities consistent with the long-term business strategy.
2. Build sustainable and productive relationships with existing clients, Organisation employees, and contractors through designing and implementing bespoke solutions.
3. Identify and develop partnering opportunities to enhance market reach.
4. Build and maintain proactive and positive relationships with all Business partners and other stakeholders to ensure that the Organisation retains brand equity and is well-positioned to utilize its network for revenue growth.
5. Effectively represent the Organisation in the corporate marketplace and events for commercial purposes.

Functional Leadership and Talent Development
1. Plan for the Business Development function including budgeting, forecasting, and overall management and accountability.
2. Build, coach, and mentor the Business Development team to ensure the delivery of the company targets.
3. Develop and implement staff motivation programs for the team under supervision.
4. Build the capability of the BDM team and manage their performance.

Educational Qualifications And Experience:
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy or any other business-related field.
• Over ten (10) years of working experience in any of the following; Business development, Sales and Marketing, Strategy four (4) years of which should be in a Middle Management position.
• A Master’s degree in Business Administration or a related field is desirable.
• Medical background or Pharma experience is an added advantage.
• Other certifications or exposure in Commercial Management, Supplier Relationship Management, Contract Management, and Procurement are also preferred.
• Strong leadership competence and managing big and diverse teams
