The Environment & Natural Resource Management Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies and programs aimed at promoting sustainable environmental practices and effective management of natural resources. S/he will be responsible for provision of technical expertise in environment and natural resource management and project oversight; analysis of project performance and documentation of success; and the development of recommendations to enhance project performance. The specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to protect the environment, conserve natural resources, and promote sustainable development.

THE ROLE
Duties and responsibilities:
Technical Expertise and Support:
• Provide technical expertise on environmental and natural resource issues, including resource assessment, and impact evaluation.
• Develop and implement environmental and natural resource management strategies and plans aligned with the local context, district plans and priorities.
• Conduct climate and environmental risk assessments and develop anticipatory action plans with households, communities and local authorities.
• Oversee environmental monitoring and reporting activities.
• Develop and implement interventions to promote sustainable environmental management, land use practices and natural resource conservation.
• Collaborate with communities to foster environmental stewardship.
• Build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
• Provide technical support to project teams on environmental issues.
• Analyze environmental trends and challenges to inform project adaptation development.
• Develop and implement strategies for sustainable management of natural resources, including water, forests, and land.
• Promote biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration.
• Support community-based natural resource management initiatives.
• Assess the vulnerability of ecosystems and communities to climate change.
• Promote low-carbon development practices and nature-based solutions for income generation among targeted households and communities.
• Use the landscape approach and community led watershed management approaches to promote environment and natural resource restoration and management.
• Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the effectiveness and impact of environmental management programs.
• Prepare and present reports on project progress, challenges, and outcomes to stakeholders and donors.
• Conduct strategic environmental assessments (SEAs) to evaluate the potential impacts of project activities.
• Develop and implement environmental management plans to mitigate negative impacts and enhance positive outcomes.
• Monitor environmental performance and compliance with regulations.
• Conduct research on environmental and natural resource management issues.
• Share knowledge and best practices through publications, presentations, and workshops.
1. Program Implementation:
• Design, manage, and evaluate interventions related to natural resource management, including biodiversity conservation, water management, and land use planning.
• Oversee the integration of climate-smart practices and environmental sustainability into project activities
2. Capacity Building and Training:
• Design and deliver training sessions and workshops for refugees, host community members, local governments and local farmers.
• Develop educational materials and resources to support knowledge transfer and skill-building.
• Develop training manuals and workshop content for farmers, government partners, small and medium agribusinesses and other stakeholders on environment natural resource management.
3. Monitoring and Evaluation:
• Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the effectiveness and impact of environmental management programs.
• Prepare and present reports on project progress, challenges, and outcomes to stakeholders and donors.
• Conduct strategic environmental assessments (SEAs) to evaluate the potential impacts of project activities.
• Develop and implement environmental management plans to mitigate negative impacts and enhance positive outcomes.

• Stakeholder Engagement:
o Engage with local communities, government bodies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to build partnerships and foster collaboration on environmental and resource management initiatives.
o Conduct workshops, seminars, and training sessions to raise awareness and promote best practices.
1. Reporting and Documentation:
• Prepare regular reports on activities, achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
• Document success stories and best practices to share with project stakeholders and contribute to knowledge management
2. Communication and Networking
• Create and sustain positive working relationships internally with other technical staff; externally with the Consortium partners, district local governments and other stakeholders, and maintains an up-to-date understanding of key development trends in the project area.
• Ensure coordination with the government activities and structures in the implementation of URRI Project.

Academic background, experience, and person specifications:
• At least a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 8 years of relevant experience in environmental management, natural resource conservation, or related fields. Experience in a similar role with an international or non-governmental organization is an advantage.
• Highly experienced in programme management associated to natural resource protection and socio-economic development, particularly relating to renewable energy and Innovation, green livelihoods, nature-based solutions (NBS) and climate smart options
• Excellent communication and report writing skill.
• Computer literacy, particularly in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills in English, with experience working in multicultural, multi -location, values driven teams.
