Job Summary
Responsible for managing the resource allocation for all projects and guides the engineering and quality assurance team to achieve the business goals. He is responsible for providing technical leadership for the structural engineering group, and in collaboration with the Head of Engineering, Africa, develops standards and procedures for the local entity and ATC Engineering group.
The incumbent leads with creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgement to anticipate and solve routine and complex engineering challenges, as well as developing new product solutions to meet customer demands. She/He communicates with applicable areas of the business, as well as external clients, and works with them to ensure that all concerns and challenges relating to structures are resolved in a timely manner.
Primary responsibilities include implementing a tower inspection and remediation program, determining the life cycle of the tower infrastructure, maximizing the capacity of the tower infrastructure. Work with the engineering team to identify rectification and remediation steps to ensure the integrity of tower infrastructure. Responsible for ensuring that the product or services the organization provides is consistent and meets both external and internal customers’ requirements and specifications. Coordinates all activities required to meet quality standards and oversees the implementation of software test standards. Provides support in executing test plans based on the technical and functional requirements of the business
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide technical oversight for analysis and design activities, including review and approval of engineering reports, drawings, and specifications.
• Work with the local and regional Engineering team in the development of standards, guidelines, tools, and procedures for use throughout the local entity/ market and the region. Provide technical leadership for major upgrade projects and develop solutions for unique challenges.
• Work with vendors and Supply Chain to optimize existing product designs and develop new products to meet customer demands.
• Provide sound and mature engineering decisions that balance (i) interpretation and compliance with applicable standards and regulations, (ii) safety and risk and (iii) customer needs.
• Formulate and enforce Quality Assurance compliance and control measures for structural engineering activities and deliverables including preparation of quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability studies, recalls, corrective actions, and re-validations.
• Responsible for carrying out structural analysis for telecommunications tower including tower mapping and ensuring towers structures are within safety limits.
• Responsible for certifying integrity of both legacy and new telecommunication towers both civil and steel perspective.
• Responsible for managing the entire tower infrastructure lifecycle from strategic planning to tactical activities.
• Developing, Revising, Managing, and assisting with multiple internal and external processes; procedures include structural engineering, regulatory, zoning permitting, construction, finance, and integration.
• Provide daily or weekly report to management detailing project performance, critical is life cycle of the tower infrastructure, and recommendations relating to replacement and remediation as well as lead forensic investigation efforts and document findings in well organized reports.
• Develop and maintain a detailed tower infrastructure database.
• Drive and ensure the quality of all test plans.
• Ensure that all test plans adhere to software test guidelines and standards.
• Review and establish new metrics for assessing software quality and evaluate results as defined by the Quality Assurance team.
• Define quality standards for the business and ensure they are delivered and maintained.
• Performs job coordination and planning functions such as reviewing schedules to identify job intervals, addressing material issues, evaluating skill requirements, assessing resource requirements versus availability, approving quality plans, assisting with site surveys, coordinating job/customer visits, working with customer, etc.
• Mentor, coach, and train direct reports.
• Oversee the implementation of tower / foundation strengthening and tower extension.
Qualifications and Requirements required:
• University Degree in Civil engineering
• Master’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering preferred.
• Professional engineering license with evidence of registration or membership.
• Preferred experience includes at least one of the following:
• Minimum of 7 years in design and analysis of tower structures.
• Minimum of 10 years in structural design, preferably in roles of increasing responsibility.
• Minimum 15 years of experience in construction or field engineering for wireless communications structures.
• Minimum 2 years of experience with AutoCAD required.
• Working knowledge of TIA/EIA-222 standard and other relevant steel, concrete, and communications structure standards.
• Minimum of 4 years supervisory experience required.
• Knowledge on Microsoft or UNIX platforms or Oracle ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) applications environment.
