Main Purpose:
The primary role of the Desktop publisher is to design campaign elements for traditional advertising. The Publisher should possess graphic design skills to support both internal and external communication. He or she will be the resident designer for all ad hoc collateral as may be required from time to time by MTN. The developer shall also have the responsibility to create or adapt (existing design material) of visual communication and creative promotional materials to support the brand’s communication objectives.
Main Job Functions
• Receive and execute to the expectations of briefs. This will also involve and require, creation of material to the specific design requirements as defined in the brief.
• Design digital collateral for MTN’s assets and where available as part of campaign collateral and or adapt from working files from the agency.
• The Publisher will perform the job of AVP of digital and offline assets for all ad hoc campaigns and always on. (e.g., videos).
• He or She will be responsible for designing 3D Animations and Modeling for the ad hoc campaigns.
• Translate approved designs (PSDs) of the UX into relevant CSS and other supported files to support back-end execution of the various communication strategies.
• Creating and maintaining style guides and visualization documents whilst ensuring alignment with the MTN Brand CI.
• Design digital collateral for all assets (bought and owned) and where available as part of campaigns, adapt from approved artwork from Creative team.
• Support the different agency and client teams by participating in brainstorming sessions whenever called upon.
• Support the gate keeping and review of all third-party design executions from vendors and Agency to ensure alignment with the MTN Brand standards.
• Present work in a logical and exciting manner to make it easy for users to digest.
• Timeously manage jobs and take accountability for deadlines.
• The digital developer will have the responsibility to develop software tools to support execution of digital campaigns/engagements as well as traditional advertising. The resource will offer support for user-interface design, development, testing and deployment.
• The developer will also possess graphic design skills to support the design of traditional advertising for both internal and external communication as well as perform frontend/UX designer for software projects. He/she shall also be the internal stakeholders’ and digital team’s always on resident designer for all ad hoc collateral as may be required from time to time by MTN.
• The developer shall also have the responsibility to create or adapt (existing design material) of visual communication and creative promotional materials to support the brand’s communication objectives.
Key Areas of Performance Include:
• Prototype developments
• Testing and optimization of prototypes
• Graphic design for both digital and traditional advertising channels
Education
• A related university degree, apprenticeship, or other higher education qualification.
Experience:
• At least 2 years’ experience working in a commercial environment, advertising agencies with both traditional advertising and digital design competencies.
• Ability to read and interpret both strategic papers and briefs.
• Experiencing dealing with production houses and online media design entities
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:
• This requires the job holder to be conversant with the most up to date tools, skills and design trends in the industry.
• The designer should be conversant with local market audiences and the design thinking process has to be rooted in local insight.
• The designer will be required to have strong networks through which trends and ideas are discussed.
