Cycling out of Poverty Foundation (CooP-Uganda) supports students, health volunteers, farmers, and small entrepreneurs with bicycles to improve access to basic needs and services such as education, health care, work, and income. We believe that a bicycle makes a difference in this world and is a huge contributor to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Our mission is to improve livelihood of Ugandan families by making bicycles and other mobility aids (such as wheelchairs, bicycle ambulances and cargo bikes) accessible and available for everyone in Uganda.
Job Purpose/Mission
We are currently looking to recruit a highly motivated, organised, responsible, accurate and independent working Community M&E Officer, who will be based in Jinja. The Community M&E Officer is responsible for: – executing our social projects in the communities, – manage relationships with the community, authorities, and donors, – periodic reporting in written and verbal reports, photos, and videos. Also, our Community M&E Officers double as bicycle tour guides from time to time.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Social program design, implementation, oversight, and development. Key tasks include:
• Administer relationships with communities and have a feel for what is going on in the communities where we work and generate ideas accordingly for social projects which benefit the community.
• Develop social project plans, budgets and reports as required by CooP-Uganda, donors, and other partners.
• Execute/roll out all social projects based on annual and project plans, including monitoring and evaluation.
• Collect and analyse data on the program’s impact, including data on program participation, and program outcomes.
• Prepare fundraising proposals.
• Prepare reports on the programs impact, using data visualization and storytelling techniques to communicate findings effectively to management, donors, and authorities, including monthly target meetings with Programs manager.
• Manage the relationship with CooP-Africa and other local partners in the program, such as schools, health centres, District Officials.
• Record photo and video footage for general marketing.
Social Enterprise. Key tasks include:
• Guide Bike ventures clients during bicycle tours.
• Attend to clients for bicycle sales, accommodation, and bicycle rental.
• Record photo and video footage for general marketing.
Other:
• Undertake any other duties that may be requested by the General Manager or Operations Manager from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
• Must be a comfortable cyclist.
• Proven ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including community members, and officials.
• Cultural sensitivity and adaptability to work in a multicultural and cross-cultural environment.
• Preferably familiar with Jinja area.
• Bachelors in community development, M&E, project management or other relevant social sciences.
• Excellent verbal & written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills.
• Experience in data processing (Microsoft Word), spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel), e-mail, and internet browser software.
• Experience with social media, photographing and video recording is an advantage.
• The applicant must have:
• A passion for cycling and conservation: must be able to easily ride 15 km by bicycle.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills.
• A minimum of one year of professional experience is preferred.
• Excellent eye for detail, perfect accuracy and perfect and consistent in spelling and layout.
• Proficiency with office computer equipment and software.
Experience in fundraising and experience with agriculture will be an added advantage.
