What is the opportunity?
Under the direction of the Country Director Uganda, the Community Development Manager role is responsible for effectively managing the WASH project(s) in line with the objectives, budget, timeframes, and proposal(s). This role also includes enhancing beneficiary participation, managing, and training staff, and initiating new WASH projects/proposals. The role Supervises the Evangelist and Discipleship Coordinator, Senior Wash officer, and WASH officers and is located in Jinja, Uganda.
A successful Community Development Manager will:
General Responsibilities:
• Maintain a strong Christian witness and model servant leadership to colleagues, partners, the communities we serve, and the public.
• Engage and participate in prayer before and after team meetings.
• Lead and participate in biblically based staff devotions.
• Lead and manage the Community Development Department that ensures safe water solutions are provided and implemented in communities.
Technical WASH Management:
• Design, plan, and implement community development WASH service models.
• Analyse and provide insights, thoughts, and analysis of all aspects of Water Mission safe water solution implementation models.
• Develop, assess, and manage projects and project plans according to Water Mission’s standards.
• Ensure that regular monitoring and evaluation assessments are conducted both against project activities and to ensure the quality of the program, with reports being made to the relevant stakeholders.
• Ensure the timely reporting of activities for internal and external reports as requested by HQ, donors, and the country program leadership.
• Assess existing water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion activities in the assigned area(s) and recommend actions to be taken.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local and national government offices.
• Analyse and resolve safe water operational issues including but not limited to the following:
o Community leadership issues (including Safe Water Committees)
o Financial tracking/performance to support meeting goals.
o System operational issues that may affect performance/sustainability.
• Be a Water Mission representative in the communities by presenting Water Mission’s safe water solution interests.
Staff management:
• Ensure the assigned WASH team members receive relevant and appropriate supervision, coaching, mentoring, and training to develop their personal and professional skills, knowledge, and understanding. This may be through on-the-job training and taught sessions.
• Manage and oversee the assigned WASH team including day-to-day management, development, and training.
• Work with casual laborers including hiring, co-ordinating workload, and payment) to achieve specific, time-bound tasks.
• Schedule and organize department meetings.
Communication and Coordination:
• Develop and maintain appropriate, regular, transparent, and supportive communication structures with the assigned WASH team, the program development team, and other relevant stakeholders. E.g., beneficiaries, community leaders, local and national government officials, and other partners.
Coordination:
• Manage the correct and timely ordering (within budgetary constraints) of all necessary WASH supplies and equipment for the assigned WASH activities, ensuring minimum stocks are maintained and items are stored and distributed correctly.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education Qualification and Experience:
• Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Water and Sanitation, Environmental Management, Public Health, or WASH-related field.
• At least 5 years experience actively working in the WASH Sector, leading teams, handling stakeholder engagement, and coordinating projects.
• A Master’s degree in Public Health is an added advantage.
