JOB DETAILS:
DUTY STATION : LABORATORY
DEPARTMENT : Biochemistry, Haematology, Parasitology, Microbiology, Serology & Blood bank.
POSITION : MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST
HOURS/ SHIFTS : FULL TIME
REPORTS TO : LAB COORIDINATOR / HEAD OF DEPERTMENT
INTERFACES WITH : LABORATORY TEAM, HOSPITAL TEAM.
OVERALL JOB PURPOSE
The job incumbent shall be responsible for serve patients by identifying the best method for retrieving specimens; preparing specimens for laboratory testing, performing testing procedures following SOPs and ensure efficient delivery of correct and accurate reports.
The job position shall also act as a back-up to other Clinical Laboratory technologist wherever needed for the smooth running of day-to-day operations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES
• A Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Technology is desired.
• Minimum 4 – 6 years of experience in similar field.
• Ability to use computers to enter information
• Familiar with infection control policies and procedures
• Allied Health professional registration certificate and valid practicing license.

• Ability to connect with various types of patients (such as children, elderly, pregnant women) and make them feel comfortable.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Explain tests to patients and answer any questions they might have
• Ensure Feedback Forms are properly filled by Outpatient people monthly
• Explore opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
• Participate in any project where his/her service is required
• Contribute to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and colleagues by following established standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations. Maintain patient confidence by keeping test information confidential.
• Maintain quality results by running standards and controls, verify equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and advanced trouble shooting
• Method Validation and Calibration of equipment utilizing approved testing procedures
• Monitor quality control measures and protocols
• Monitor stock and responsible for the stock for the assigned section
• Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time

Handling of
1. Microscopes.
2. Hematology analyzers BC-5380/BC5000(Mindray)
3. Cobas h232 analyzers.
4. Autoclaves.
5. Hotplates.
6. Chemistry analyzers-Cobas c311, Bs230(Mindray)
7. Differential counters.
8. Bio safety cabinet.
9. Histology and cytology equipment.
10. Centrifuge
SYSTEMS/ TECHNOLOGY
· Record all data and results in specified forms (Paper and or electronic) with accuracy and responsibility. Arrange reports for validation and delivery prior to competency assessment
· Arrange Reports for dispatch.
· Maintain patient confidentiality by keeping laboratory information confidential.
