Position Overview:
Watoto is seeking a Part-Time Dental Officer to provide quality dental care services for Watoto mothers and children while supporting oral health education and promotion programs within the ministry.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide leadership and guidance to the Laminadera Children’s Village dental unit following established department protocols and policies.
2. Monitor drug reactions, track patient progress, and manage or refer complicated dental cases as needed.
3. Conduct standard dental examinations, evaluations, and screenings to identify oral health concerns.
4. Participate in oral health promotion programs, including education campaigns, surveys, and research organized by the Watoto Medical Department.
5. Develop, implement, and monitor dental standards, protocols, and compliance at the clinic level.
6. Participate in strategic planning for the dental clinic in line with departmental goals.
7. Build partnerships with government agencies, non-profits, academic institutions, and private sector entities to resource the dental unit.
8. Provide evidence-based oral care services to clients.
9. Maintain accurate reporting and documentation in accordance with Ministry of Health guidelines.
10. Supervise dental assistants and volunteers to ensure high-quality service delivery.
11. Support staff training on oral health topics across other Watoto departments as organized by the Medical Department.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
• Diploma in Public Health Dentistry or equivalent from a recognized institution.
• Valid practicing license from the Allied Health Professionals Council.
• At least 2 years of experience in dental care, preferably in pediatric settings.
• Strong knowledge of preventive dental care, oral health education, and minor dental procedures.
• Good interpersonal skills, especially with children of all ages.
• Passionate about community oral healthcare and capable of working effectively in a team environment.
